Hurry Up and Wait

by Terry Saunders
In the moment, wind and spray
Feel the movement as we lay, as we lay
Watch the sunlight on my skin
As the new day does begin, does begin

So you knock on any door to ask the woman there
If she's got a job needs doin', and she's kind enough to share
But you're staring at a wall, running from a scream
And a dog lets out a snarl through the backdoor screen
In the moment on the street
Heard the people break the peace, break the peace
In the daylight at my post
Still at midday I'm a ghost, I'm a ghost

You try so just to think there's got to be a way
'Cos I served this country once, I still have not been paid
To rid once and for all, remembering the hate
While the world goes running by, you hurry up & wait

In the moment lights go on
Cherry crimson lights of dawn, lights of dawn
In the twilight all but dead
Move the flowers by my head

I don't think of who I've had or what I could've been
There's a blanket on my back, my belly full of beans
I write some simple songs, drink inexpensive wine
And I never comb my hair, and I always have the time

In the moment wind and spray
Feel the movement as we lay, As we lay
